HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo Mail News

This email is sent to guests who have dined with us at HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo and our affiliated restaurants and to those who have registered from our website.

Happy New Year!

We hope that you were able to ring in a happy and healthy new year.

This is the year of the dog in the Chinese Zodiac. The character for ‘dog’ traditionally symbolized harvest, as it is made up of components which together mean cutting crops and gathering them into bunches during harvest. Since ancient times and still today, we pray for a plentiful harvest and share in giving thanks for bountiful blessings.

2018 also represents the 20th anniversary of HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo. Never forgetting our original intention, together across the seasons of this year we will devote ourselves to sharing truly pleasurable dining experiences with you.

We look forward to welcoming you all starting with dinner service today.

A quintessential New Year’s dish, zouni has its origins in the Muromachi Period (1336~1573), and recipes have been passed down for centuries taking on different colors to beautifully express each region’s unique food culture. We invite you to enjoy HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo’s original zouni – perfect for a New Year celebration.

New Year Celebratory Sake

To ring in the New Year with prayers for
health and happiness, we will be breaking
open a sake cask to share a celebratory
drink with you all. Starting on January 9th,
masuzake will be served from the cask in
small wooden boxes, but we have just one
cask, so please join us sooner rather than
later to partake in this tasty tradition.
